How to Install Solar Christmas Lights
July 13, 2021 by Betty Koehn

Traditional Christmas lights are fairly easy to install. All you have to do is hang and plug them in. However, that does not seem to be the case for solar Christmas lights. So, how exactly do you install solar Christmas lights? Continue reading this article to get a comprehensive step-by-step guide on its installation.

Steps on How to Install Solar Christmas Lights

Here are the steps on how to install solar Christmas lights:

Step #1: Unboxing

Take out the solar Christmas light from its box. Ensure that all of the inclusion are inside the box, then arrange them properly so that it’s easy for you to get the pieces you need later on.

Step #2: Assemble the Solar Panel

Since this is a solar-powered Christmas light, it comes with a solar panel that will be used to charge or power the lights. Depending on the brand you buy, you often have to assemble it to be attached to its stand. Ensure that the stand is attached securely so that it does not fall apart when you put it on the ground.

Step #3: Hang the Christmas Lights

You can hang solar Christmas lights the same way as traditional Christmas lights. But, it’s highly recommended that you use it outdoors to get plenty of sunrays to charge it. Also, leave a couple of meters to stick the panels to the ground and position it somewhere sunny.

Step #4: Charge the Solar Panel

Some solar Christmas lights come in charge while others do not. If your case is the latter, put your solar panel into charging mode and leave it under the sun.

How long you leave it depends on the size of the solar panel. You can get a better idea by reading the packaging of the solar Christmas light you bought.

Step #5: Test it Out

Turn on your solar Christmas light. If it turns on, you did a good job, but if it doesn’t, check whether the panel is adequately charged and ensure that all the connections are secured. If it still does not work, you might have a faulty product, so better get in touch with the manufacturer’s customer care service.

Solar Christmas Lights vs. Traditional Lights

Most solar-powered gadgets are 25% more energy efficient than traditional Christmas lights. This also seems to be the case with Christmas lights. It’s almost like you will not be paying any electrical cost for this because it runs solely on solar energy.

Even though they are more energy-efficient, there is not much difference in the cost of solar Christmas lights compared to traditional lights. Sure, solar Christmas lights are slightly more expensive, but when you consider that you don’t have to spend on operating costs, you’d realize it’s a good deal.

Aside from that, solar Christmas lights are considerably more durable. It does not have filaments that burn out, and they are made with plastic, so they are not susceptible to breaking.

However, your solar Christmas lights can be quite unpredictable, just like the weather. When it does not get enough sun, the lights might look deem or not turn on for a longer period.

Final Words

Solar Christmas lights are excellent alternatives to traditional lights. Although it requires additional installation steps compared to traditional Christmas lights, the process is very manageable. Plus, it’s durable and very affordable as well.
